Livonia is the haunting debut from His Name Is Alive—an atmospheric, dreamlike release that helped define the early ’90s 4AD sound. Built from layered home recordings by Warren Defever, the album drifts between ambient textures, fragile melodies and ghostly vocals, creating a listening experience that feels intimate, abstract and quietly hypnotic.
Rather than following traditional song structures, Livonia unfolds like a collage—fragments of sound, whispers of melody and shifting moods that blur the line between dream pop, experimental and lo-fi recording. The result is immersive and deeply evocative, with a sense of mystery that lingers long after it ends.
Pressed on 150g vinyl, this reissue brings added warmth and depth to the original recordings, highlighting the subtle textures and delicate dynamics throughout. Livonia remains a cult classic—enigmatic, influential and a striking introduction to His Name Is Alive’s singular world.
